Established in 2003, Wenzhou Kangning Center for Clinical Research is dedicated to the innovative approach that combines fundamental and clinical research to help better understand the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness. It strives to improve diagnosis and treatment of mental illness by conducting research on new clinical treatment strategies and pathogenesis of mental illness.
Research Team
There are currently four full-time staff members at the institute, two with PhD degrees, and one master. The institute also has over ten full-time master’s students who are jointly trained with Wenzhou Medical University.
Research accomplishments
With the support of dual platforms -- Wenzhou Medical University and the National Key Specialty of Psychiatry with Wenzhou Kangning Hospital, the center has established two major laboratories, Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology and the Laboratory of Model Animals for Mental diseases. The center is equipped with the capability to undertake and complete provincial, ministerial, national and international collaborative projects. There are currently four full-time staff members at the institute, two with PhD degrees, and one master. The center also has about ten master’s students who are jointly trained with Wenzhou Medical University. The past few years witnessed 8 projects undertaken at the center, among which one with Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Funds, and seven with Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology. It has also published numerous SCI papers. Extensive collaborations and exchanges have been ongoing with multiple institutions at home and abroad, including Harvard University, Cornell University, State University of New York, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University.
Areas of Research
The Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology was established in 2016 with a fully automatic intelligent cell imaging system, fluorescence quantitative PCR, Mill - Q ultrapure water system, two-dimensional electrophoresis system, protein purification system, frozen section machine and other equipment. The laboratory is mainly involved in research areas, including respiratory system, cardiovascular system, endothelial cell signaling pathways, protein interactions and drug treatment, providing the basis for clinical research on Alzheimer's disease, pulmonary hypertension and viral myocarditis.
The Laboratory of Model Animals for Mental Diseases mainly studies the mechanism and treatment of mental illness through establishing model animals. Currently it has established a modern zebrafish cultivation system, including the RO water purification system, eight zebra fish breeding units, fairy shrimp incubation system, digital stereomicroscope microscope, ViewPoint behavior recorder. The lab is able to independently generate mutati zebrafish. Zebrafish models of depression, anxiety, hyperactivity and other diseases have been built to provide support for early clinical diagnosis and later treatment.
